Build It Yourself or Hire a Contractor
-
Nearly half of those who purchase a log home package from Log Homes of Utah build the log home themselves. This is the time to "cash-in" on all those favors owed to you by friends, uncles, aunts, and cousins. And don't forget those business and church acquaintenances who have always said: "When you get around to building your log home, let me help." Now is the time to take them up on their offers!
Actually building a log home is A LOT OF WORK, but it's fun, too. For most of our models, except the very LARGE ones, you'll put up the logs in about a week. Three of us put up the logs for our Cimarron model in six (6) days, and it was about 2,500 sq. ft. The logs for one of our homes in Torrey, Utah were put up in about 2 1/2 days (1,500 sq. ft). It will take another couple of weeks to put the roof on and dry in the log home, again depending on the number of people working and their efficiency. I've found that 3-4 people on the work crew is about right, unless you're very good at management, because "too many cooks spoil the soup," if you know what I mean.
At Log Homes of Utah, we not only come to your delivery, to make sure everything is shipped properly and arrives in good condition, but we also come to your building site when you're ready to start putting up the logs to show you how to do it, how to cut in the electrical outlets (which is a piece of cake), and to show you how to make the cuts for the windows. Again, putting up the logs is EASY, but it's a good idea to have somebody on hand who knows how to build when it comes to the roof!
If you elect to hire a contractor (which I did, signing on as his helper), he won't have any difficulty building a Utah Log Homes cabin. We also come to your site and show him some of the "tricks" of erecting a Utah Log Home, but most decent contractors won't have a bit of trouble. In fact, they'll love the fact that pretty much everything is included in our package: all of the logs, the log siding for the gable ends and dormers, the second floor and roof lumber and decking, the shingles, trim, and soffit materials, all exterior doors and windows, and the interior framing. This saves them a lot of time in assembling materials--it's all there!
So, whether you want to "do it yourself" or you hire someone else to build it for you, putting up a Log Homes of Utah cabin will be a dream come true!
